Steve Gatward, the butcher/proprietor, sells pasture-fed, free range and hormone-free meat and poultry in the heart of Del Ray at 2403 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia, 22301
Hours; Closed Monday. Open, Tuesday 11am to 6pm, Wed to Friday 11-7pm, Saturday 8am-5pm, Sunday 12noon -5pm
All of the ground meat we sell is made in house and Never Ever contains mechanically recovered meat, Ammonium Hydroxide or as its known "Pink Slime"
Because meat is a perishable item, I order the amount I think I will sell. Late in the afternoon on Saturdays there is a possibility that some of the items listed below will not be available. The best way to make sure you get what you want is to shop in the morning or phone in an order.
We now have access to Caul Fat. As some people know this is a wonder fat, great for wrapping any pate's and most food in while cooking, it will keep it moist and juicy. Just give us a call or email and we will get some for you.
We are carrying Trickling Springs Creamery Milk, it is from free range Jersey cows, never given hormones or steroids. You have to taste their chocolate milk!!!!
We also carry Free Range Yogurt sourced from Trickling Springs Creamery, it is rich and creamy and very very good.
We now have Nueske Slab Bacon that I slice for you myself. The best Bacon I have ever tasted.
We are now carrying Amish Butter which is made from only two ingredients, Cream and Salt. Butter just like your great grandmother used to make.
We also have fresh Virginia Farm Eggs from Farquier county, sold in dozens or half dozens.
Have you ever had English Back Bacon? We have it! it's sold in half lb packs and is the real thing.
We now do Knife Sharpening, when your knife won't cut just bring it on in and we will make it as good as new. only $4.00 per knife any reasonable size.
Don't forget to get your Dog a smoked marrow bone, they love 'em.
Kangaroo the wonder meat
Research from the University of Western Australia shows that kangaroo meat may be the highest known source of the healthy fat CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), which possess potential anti-carcinogenic and anti-diabetes properties, in addition to reducing obesity and atherosclerosis.
Kangaroo meat has less fat and cholesterol and more protein than boneless skinless chicken breast

Sausage selections this week.
Calcutta
The name suggests this is a spicy sausage however this is not the case. This is a semi sweet sausage made with Indian spices such as Cardomom, and Cloves
Irish
Made from Rosemary, Marjoram, and Basil makes for a very tasty Irish style sausage.
Serbian Cevapcici
This is a sausage from the Balkans made with Lamb, Beef and Pork, it also contains Garlic, Onion, and Cayenne Pepper for a tasty albeit spicy sausage.
All of our sausage are made on the premises and only contain fresh meat, herbs and spices, NEVER nitrates, nitrites or chemicals.
We do occassionaly make All Beef Sausage with natural breadcrumbs. They make for a juicier sausage.
We can make any kind of sausage to order. From your recipe or ours, however there will be a minimum order of 5lbs. Just give me a call or send an email and they will be ready in a couple of days. Note, we cannot make sausage on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We can however make them during the week and have them ready for you on the weekend.
Do you want to order a whole or half beef? You can buy either for only $3.50lb hanging weight. It would be cut to your specs, vacuum sealed and delivered to the store where you could pick it up. Just come in and fill out a cut sheet and you could have enough Farquier county dry aged Angus Beef to last quite a while.

Special orders are certainly not a problem. If you something special ordered or want meat cut your way, just call or email we will be happy to to advise you. Remember I don't carry much LAMB except for lamb chops so if you want other cuts of lamb I can get it for you in a day or two, just call.
